State Police correct details of fatal Livingston Parish motorcycle crash

FRENCH SETTLEMENT, LA (WAFB) -

State Police now say that the victim of a fatal motorcycle crash in fact was wearing a helmet when the crash happened.

Troopers say on August 2, 2013 just after 10 a.m. St. Amant resident Michael A. Skinner was driving his motorcycle southbound on LA 22 when he tried to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone. At that moment, the driver of the other vehicle was making a left turn and the motorcycle t-boned the vehicle.

Skinner was ejected from the motorcycle and died at the scene.

In the initial report from State Police, said Skinner was not wearing a helmet and impairment was suspected. However, on August 26, 2013, State Police released a statement saying that after a toxicology test was given, results showed that Skinner was not impaired and he in fact was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the vehicle only suffered minor injuries.
