BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office says a pizza delivery man has been charged with negligent homicide and hit and run after he hit a woman with his pickup truck on Tiger Bend Road on Friday, August 16, 2013.

Deputies say it happened just before 8:30 p.m. in the 16300 block of Tiger Bend Road. According to the arrest report, Darius Shaw, 18, was driving down Tiger Bend Road to make a pizza delivery and was focused on the GPS on his cell phone when he thought he hit a mailbox or debris in the road.

According to the report, he was afraid his manager would get upset with him and continued to make his deliveries and was going to come back to find the owner of the mailbox. When he returned, he learned that he hit 57-year-old Pamela Walton who was standing a few feet away from the roadway.

Walton was taken to the hospital in critical condition. She died the next morning.

Shaw was given a field sobriety test, intoxilizer and also submitted a blood sample for screening. No impairment is suspected in the crash.
