Woman and child safely escape apartment fire

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Fire investigators believe a pot left unattended on the stove caused a fire that sent a woman and child running out of their apartment Wednesday night.

It happened at the Copper Ridge Apartments on North Lobdell Boulevard in Baton Rouge around 9 p.m.

According to the Baton Rouge Fire Department, the woman said she went upstairs for just a moment and the child told her the apartment was on fire.

Fire officials said the woman and child escaped unharmed.

Firefighters were able to keep the flames contained to the one apartment, although the kitchen and living area were destroyed.

The rest of the apartment had smoke and water damage.
