BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A suspect in a shooting that left a teen dead earlier this month has turned himself in to police.

The Baton Rouge Police Department say Reginald Pickett, 19, surrendered Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators said Pickett shot Lezell James, 17, in the 1700 block of La Annie Drive early in the morning on August 1.

According to reports, officers responded to a call of shots fired in the area just after midnight and found the victim lying dead on the ground with a gunshot wound to the upper torso.

Pickett has been charged with second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.
