Fall classes begin at Southern University

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Classes are underway at Southern University on the first day of the fall semester.

Students are getting back in the swing of things like buying books, paying fees and adjusting schedules.

The university has made a push in recent years to open its campus to foreign students.

"We believe the interest is there," said Dr. James Llorens, chancellor of Southern University. "We believe the students are here. It's a matter of how to address those needs and challenges they are facing to remain in school."

Southern will be sharing cultural experiences throughout the semester and will be kicking off its football season against Houston next Friday, August 30.

According to the university's website, the last day to drop courses without receiving a grade of "W" is August 28.
