Keeping an eye on Gulf weather

Posted: Updated:
NEW ORLEANS (AP) -

South Louisiana officials are watching an area of disturbed weather in the Gulf of Mexico, but the National Weather Service gave the disorganized system only about a 30 percent chance of developing in to a tropical cyclone over the next few days.

And, computer models by various forecasters showed it most likely tracking toward Mexico. Still, Saturday forecasts called for the possibility of heavy rains in parts of south Louisiana Sunday and Monday.

In Jefferson Parish, officials on Saturday advised residents in low lying coastal areas outside levee protection to pay close attention to news reports and to monitor weather conditions. And residents were asked to be sure streets and storm drains were clear of debris to prevent street flooding.
