BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
A man from California who is running, walking and biking around the country for a good cause was in Baton Rouge Friday morning.
How many miles could you run in this August heat? This man is on a mission.
"Yesterday, I did 50 miles," said Andy Galata. "That was my new personal record. I ran 30, walked 20."
The 22-year-old left San Diego in March and set out on a 9-month journey literally around the country. He went up the West Coast into Canada, and then down the East Coast.
He biked halfway and is walking and running the rest. It's tough work, but remembering why he's doing it is all he needs to keep going.
"Some days are hard. Some days I get lost in thought, but the Children's Inn provides the inspiration I need and they're fighting a tough battle and it reminds me, 'You need to keep fighting and keep pushing on.'"
The Children's Inn is part of the National Institute for Health. It's a place where sick kids go with their families while they undergo treatment for various diseases.
So far, Andy has raised about one-third of his $10,000 goal.
