ExxonMobil chefs battle in Jambalaya Cookoff

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The 24th Annual ExxonMobil Jambalaya Cookoff features 62 teams and 3,000 mouths to feed, but all while helping a great cause.

The cookoff benefits the Capital Area United Way. Johnny Ahysen is one of the judges for the event.

Representatives from United Way said they are grateful for the awareness Friday's cookoff brings to the organization.

"It's providing a hand up," said Kendal Hebert with United Way. "It's not just providing a hand out, so our focus this year, of course every year, is the education coming health needs in our community."

This event was just a qualifier and was not open to the public.

The winners head to the city-wide competition, Jambalaya Jam, which is scheduled to take place in downtown Baton Rouge on October 10.
