HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) -

Investigators said they have arrested two suspects in connection with a murder from 10 years ago.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office reported Karen Birch, 33, of Tickfaw, and David Morris, 39, of Baton Rouge, were taken into custody in the death of Debbie Ann Lindsey, 44, of Amite.

Deputies said Birch and Morris have always been persons of interest in the case. They were friends of the victim.

According to investigators, the cold case was reopened in July and by interviewing friends and relatives of the victim again, several new witnesses surfaced and gave statements linking Birch and Morris to the crime.

Birch and Morris were each booked on a charge of second-degree murder. The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office assisted in the arrests. The investigation is ongoing.

Lindsey's body was found in a wooded area near her home on March 13, 2003. Detectives said it was badly decomposed, but an autopsy revealed she had been stabbed to death.
