BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Members of a grand jury examined the evidence in a deadly nightclub shooting and decided that there was not enough evidence for charges to be filed against a security guard.
The Baton Rouge Police Department said the guard shot and killed Corey Kaufman, 32, outside Club Sha La last August. The club is located at the intersection of Plank Road and Harding Boulevard.
Kaufman's family says it was murder, but detectives say the guard shot in self-defense after Kaufman pulled a gun.
According to investigators, Kaufman had been banned from the club and was escorted out a short time prior. They said Kaufman then went to his car, got a gun and aimed it at the security guard. Reports indicate that's when the guard fired and hit Kaufman in the chest.
No charges were ever filed and the grand jury returned a no true bill.
