DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) - A man has now been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide following a crash that left two bothers dead.
Louisiana State Police said Samuel Doherty III, 28, of Baton Rouge, was taken into custody Sunday after toxicology results showed he was under the influence of several drugs.
Troopers named amphetamine, methamphetamine, oxycodone and marijuana as some of the controlled substances found in his system.
Doherty was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on a $200,000 bond.
The wreck happened on LA 64 (Magnolia Bridge Road) west of LA 1028 in Denham Springs just before 9 p.m. on July 27. Brothers Mickel Tetreault, 20, of Livingston, and Bryan Payne, 22, of Denham Springs, both died in the crash.
Tetreault was pronounced dead at the scene, while Payne died the next day at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge.
Troopers said their investigation showed a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Doherty, crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 1997 Ford pickup, driven by Payne.
