BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Jessica Collins isn't usually an early bird on Saturday mornings, but she was wide awake Saturday. She and her family drove from Mississippi to Baton Rouge for the CB&I job fair. Collins is one of the many eager and hopeful job seekers. She said her family is looking to relocate for better opportunities.
"We live in a small town and the job I do is great," said Collins "I work in a school but there isn't a whole lot of room for growth."
CB&I is an engineering construction company that recently bought out Shaw. Earlier this year, the company announced it will bring 400 jobs to Baton Rouge, hiring engineers and administrators, just to name a few. Chip Ray, president of government solutions, said the Capitol City has what the company is looking for.
"People are friendly, we have a tremendous talent in the local area and we recognize we could build core business here to grow for both business in Louisiana and around the world," said Ray.
"I'm from Louisiana originally," said John Clower, another job fair attendee. "I moved to Chicago and I'm looking to get out of Chicago and maybe come back down to Louisiana."
Back in Chicago, he was an investment advisor. He said it's time to change things up.
"You are always trying to improve, always looking for an upgrade. Maybe not necessarily the wife," said Clower.
