Troopers: Motorcyclist dies after pulling in front of 18-wheeler

PORT ALLEN, LA (WAFB) -

Louisiana State Police said a motorcyclist died after getting hit by an 18-wheeler early Friday morning.

The victim was identified by state police as Joseph Landry, 50, of Port Vincent.

The crash happened on US 190 West in front of the Cajun Circus Casino and Café around 12:15 a.m. It is located just west of Port Allen.

Troopers said their investigation showed Landry pulled out of the parking lot and into the path of the big rig. They said the tractor trailer hit Landry's motorcycle from behind.

Impairment is not suspected in the crash, but per procedure, a sample of Landry's blood was sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured. He was not charged.

Troopers closed both lanes of US 190 West for about an hour as they collected evidence and the scene was cleared.

The roadway was reopened just after 3 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
