POINTE COUPEE PARISH, LA (WAFB) - A 10-year deputy with the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff's Office has been arrested following a drug investigation.

Sheriff Bud Torres says Joseph Reed Bueche, 51, of Ventress, was arrested and charged with two counts of malfeasance in office.  He was fired Wednesday night following his arrest.

Torres says numerous complaints were filed saying that Bueche was involved in "illicit drug sales."

An internal investigation proved that there was credible evidence to support the allegations.

Torres says he immediately notified the State Police Criminal Investigation Unit which determined probable cause to execute a search warrant on Bueche's home.

"Sgt. Bueche was held in high regard in the community," says Torres. "We believe this to be an isolated incident."

He was released after posting a $10,000 bail. No word yet on when Bueche will be before a judge. It was unclear whether Bueche has an attorney.
