CHARENTON, LA (WAFB) - Sheriff's deputies said a man found asleep in his car in the middle of a roadway was arrested on drug and burglary charges.
The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office reported Louis Tabb, 20, of Charenton, was taken into custody Tuesday morning. He faces the following charges:
Obstruction of a highway
Possession of marijuana
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Simple burglary (2 counts)
Officials said callers reported seeing a car parked on Chitimacha Trail and the responding deputy found the driver asleep. The deputy also reported seeing a bag of what was believed to be marijuana inside the car. Tabb was taken to the parish jail for booking.
The investigation continued and about an hour after Tabb was taken into custody, the sheriff's office received a report of a car break-in. Deputies said the burglary happened on LA 319 in Cypremort Point. The investigating deputy identified the stolen items as some of the same ones that were inside Tabb's car.
Detectives later linked Tabb to another vehicle burglary in Cypremort Point as they continued investigating the case. They have not yet found that second victim.
Officials said Tabb remains in the parish prison and bond has not been set.
