FRANKLINTON, LA (WAFB) - The U.S. Coast Guard and the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office say they have found the body of a woman who went missing Sunday afternoon on the Bogue Chitto River.
According to the Coast Guard, Melanie Borja was last seen swimming about halfway down the Bogue Chitto River. The 22-year-old woman from Picayune, Mississippi was found along the bank of the river just after 1 p.m., half a mile north of Wayne's World, according to WWL-TV.
According to the Coast Guard, Borja jumped off of her tube and started swimming around 4 p.m. Sunday.
WWL-TV says authorities checked the area multiple times where Borja's body was found, but when they returned with cadaver dogs just after 1 p.m., searchers spotted her body.
