MASON, OH (FOX19) -

Local beach volleyball players can earn the chance to play against some of the best players in the world during the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) Cincinnati Open.

Tournament officials announced Monday registration is open for a qualifying tournament to be held in advance of the AVP Cincinnati Open.

The qualifier will be a one-day, single elimination tournament on Friday, August 30 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center. The tournament is open to two-player men's and women's teams of any ability.

Players will be seeded into the single-elimination tournament based on their results in previous tournaments. The top four teams from each gender at the end of the open qualifier will advance to play in the AVP Cincinnati Open's main draw, scheduled for August 31-September 2.

Organizers say those who advance to the main draw will compete against some of the best players in the world, expected to include three-time Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh, Olympic gold medalists Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser and more.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for beach volleyball players in and around Cincinnati to test their skills," said Donald Sun, the AVP's Managing Partner. "Not only will it allow local players to compete for bragging rights as the best on their own beaches, but it will give them the chance to play against players they've seen competing on the world's biggest stage in the Olympics. There are very few other sports that can offer that."

Think you've got what it takes? Registration for the open qualifier runs through August 19. The fee is $75 per player.

Teams can register at www.AVP.com. Fans planning to attend the tournament can also purchase tickets online.
