COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Fans are no longer welcome at University of South Carolina football practice.

The first week of practice was originally open to the public, but Head Coach Steve Spurrier announced Sunday at Media Day that practices were no longer open to fans.

Spurrier said some fans were ignoring a policy prohibiting cell phone video and photos, and autograph seekers were making it difficult for players to get into and out of practice.

Local and national media outlets swarmed Williams-Brice Stadium Sunday for the annual South Carolina Media Day. Many of them were there for sound bytes from Defensive End Jadaveon Clowney.

"I hate it," he joked when asked about all the attention. "It shouldn't change me. No pressure.  I'll continue to play the same."

Clowney said he worked as hard as he could in the offseason to prepare for the attempt to win an SEC Championship with the Gamecocks.

"I pushed myself more," he said.  "Keep pushing.  Don't quit."

Clowney said he's not tired of seeing the replays of the game-changing hit against Michigan in the 2013 Outback Bowl.

"That play, 'The Hit,' was pretty cool," he said.  "I still get a kick out of it."

South Carolina's first and second string quarterbacks also addressed Spurrier's plan to tag- team them again this year.

"We made it work last year," said starter Connor Shaw. "We can make it work again.  We work well together.  We compliment each other."

Backup Dylan Thompson said he has more confidence going into this season.

"I just have to be ready whenever I'm called," he said.
