Nearly three hours after a man was shot and a woman was abducted from a home in the 1400 block of Jasper Avenue, police have the suspect in custody and the woman is safe.

According to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office, 33-year-old Norman Gibson, a.k.a. Jr, was accused of abducting his ex-girlfriend and shooting her current boyfriend Friday afternoon around 1 p.m.

The victim's family identified the possible suspect as Gibson. Gibson is currently living in Zachary and he also has family in Erwinville, La.

According to deputies, Gibson showed up at his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend's residence and shot the new boyfriend in the chest before fleeing taking his ex-girlfriend. The shooting victim is in serious condition, but is expected to survive.

Gibson was originally thought to be driving a black Dodge Challenger with Florida license plate. According to EBRSO, they believe the suspect switched vehicles in West Baton Rouge and was driving a 2009 Toyota Corolla.

Gibson was arrested just before 4 p.m. at the foot of the Krotz Springs Bridge in St. Landry Parish. He faces a number of charges after the nearly three hour pursuit. He will be booked as a fugitive from East Baton Rouge and eventually transported back to East Baton Rouge Parish.

Gibson will be charged with second degree kidnapping and attempted first degree murder.
