Suspect in deadly drug related shooting turns himself in

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge Police say the man wanted for a drug-related shooting that left another man dead Wednesday turned himself into authorities Thursday.

The Baton Rouge Police Department said Gregory Short, 23, of Baton Rouge, died at an area hospital from a gunshot wound to the neck.

Detectives said Devante Courtney, 20, of Baton Rouge is accused of shooting the victim.

According to police, the shooting happened in the 1800 block of Carolyn Sue Drive around 3 p.m. Investigators said Short was shot inside his own apartment during a dispute over drugs.

He was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.

Officers said Courtney drove off in an older model minivan after the shooting.

Courtney turned himself in without incident and was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison where he will be charged with first degree murder, armed robbery and illegal use of a dangerous weapon.

The investigation is ongoing.
