NEW ORLEANS, LA (WAFB) - Funeral services are being held in New Orleans for longtime lawmaker Lindy Boggs.
The nine-term congresswoman and Pointe Coupee native passed away Saturday at the age of 97. She was the first woman from Louisiana elected to Congress.
Gov. Bobby Jindal, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu and other prominent leaders are expected to attend the service.
Visitation took place at St. Louis Cathedral beginning at 9 a.m. A funeral mass began at 11:30 a.m.
After the service, a second line will accompany the hearse as it is taken to New Roads, where she will be buried.
