Three former LSU Lady Tigers set for 2013 WNBA All-Star Game

From LSU Sports

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Three former LSU women's basketball standouts – Seimone Augustus, Sylvia Fowles and Allison Hightower – will participate in the 2013 WNBA All-Star Game at Connecticut's Mohegan Sun Arena at 2:30 p.m. CT Saturday live on ABC Sports after being selected by the fans and league's coaches.

Fowles and Hightower are reserves on the Eastern Conference roster, while Augustus was voted as a starter by the fans on the Western Conference team. It represents the first time in LSU history that at least three players in the same season have made the WNBA All-Star Game.

Hightower will be playing for the host Connecticut Sun in her first All-Star Game appearance. Called by many experts as the league's most improved player, the fourth-year guard is having a career year for the Sun.

"My heart stopped," the former LSU guard from 2006-10 said when she learned she made the team. "It's a great feeling and a tremendous honor."

She is averaging a career-high 13.4 points per game and had a career-high 23 points against San Antonio last week.

Augustus and teammate Maya Moore will represent the Minnesota Lynx in the starting lineup. The former two-time NCAA National Player of the Year, Augustus garnered the fifth-most fan votes with 18,454.

Already the franchise leader in scoring with 3,890 points, Augustus has tallied three 20-plus point games this season, improving her club-record total to 91. She ranks 13th in the WNBA in scoring (15.5 ppg) and seventh in field goal percentage (.514). She will be making her fourth All-Star game appearance.

Fowles, who was recently named WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week, is making her fourth All-Star game appearance as a member of the Chicago Sky. She was MVP of the contest in 2010, and she is averaging a double-double this season with 15.0 points and 11.7 rebounds per game.
