The New Orleans Saints started training camp Friday with head coach Sean Payton in charge once again. With Payton back the Saints are looking to put last season behind them and get back to the playoffs.
Jonathan Vilma on turnovers caused by the defense: "It's good to get those turnovers. It's better when we have execution. So we're getting these turnovers off of executing the defense which is really good, as opposed to just tipped balls and things like that. I think guys are really understanding the (concepts of) the defense and what Rob Ryan wants and we're coming out here, we're executing and we're making plays off of it."
Sean Payton on injuries: "Kenyon Coleman didn't practice. He has the flu. He should be ready tomorrow, Jarred Fayson is (suffering from) the same thing, dehydration, Marques Colston we held out with a foot, Patrick Robinson with his right knee, and Victor Butler with his left knee. Today and tomorrow there will be no pads and then, like I said yesterday, Sunday we will get into the full pads."
Drew Brees on today's first practice: "It was good. I think everybody was a little sore from that conditioning test yesterday but just to get on the field and start playing football was what we were waiting for."
Cameron Jordan on the defensive line: "There is a lot of weight on the d-line this year. There are a lot of big boys, a lot of big men. What is so great about it is that everybody can move. Everyone is pretty nimble on their feet. That is what I am most excited about."
Malcolm Jenkins on Keenan Lewis: "Yes. If you see the league, and the progression of where the game is going as far as the corner position, those bigger longer guys are starting to really shine in the NFL and Keenan is obviously one of those. He's got great hips, great feet, and he plays the ball pretty well so we're excited about his addition to the team."
Here are some quick hits from Friday's practice:
Wide receiver Hakim Saalim from Tarleton State got the first high five of training camp from head coach Sean Payton.
Roman Harper is out with Hernia injury.
Charles Brown has lined up with the first team at Left Tackle.

Akiem Hicks, Broderick Bunkley and Cameron Jordan start on the defensive line.
Hometown hero Keenan Lewis takes interception away from Joe Morgan and draws cheers from fans.
