Lee Drive closure begins at 7 p.m.

Information Provided by East Baton Rouge Parish:

BATON ROUGE, LA - Lee Drive will be completely closed to traffic between Bluebell Drive and Bennett Drive beginning July 25 at 7 p.m. The road is expected to re-open Monday, July 29, at 7 p.m.

The posted detour is Highland Road/ Stanford Avenue/ Perkins Road/ LSU Avenue.  Stanford Drive is currently under construction so motorists should expect delays. Please allow additional time for trips to and from the area, and utilize alternative routes where possible.

Please note that no vehicles, including permitted loads, will be allowed through the construction zone.

This closure is required to allow the contractor to remove and replace a drainage pipe across Lee Drive. The drainage pipe was not originally planned as part of the East Baton Rouge City-Parish Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) Program Central Consolidated Force Main Phase II Capacity Improvement Project. However during the project it was found to be deteriorated beyond repair and thus requiring replacement.

Following the completion of this work, no other full closures of Lee Drive are expected as part of this project. The remainder of the sewer work will be completed utilizing partial lane closures with flagman.  The current plan is to complete all work that requires significant traffic impacts prior to the start of the East Baton Rouge School Year (Aug. 12th) and no later than the start of the LSU fall semester (Aug. 26th).

The SSO Program will reduce sanitary sewer overflows, protect the environment, and allow the City-Parish to meet Federal Consent Decree requirements and Clean Water Act regulations.

The EBR SSO Program reminds you to please drive with caution through all construction sites and to be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Pay close attention to any traffic signs and directions given by flagmen or police officers.
