ST. GEORGE, SC (WCSC) -

St. George police say four people were arrested Sunday after a traffic stop uncovered candy containing THC, the main ingredient in marijuana.

Officers also found multiple drugs, bottles of alcohol, stacks of cash, and a loaded handgun in the suspects' car.

Stephen Roe, 24, Daniel Howell, 20, Angela Leonhardt, 19, and Kari Robbins, 20, were arrested and charged with narcotics, drug equipment, weapon, and liquor violations.

According to an incident report, the driver's Toyota Sequoia was spotted running a stop sign at the intersection of W. Jim Bilton Blvd. and the off ramp of I-95 around 5:30 p.m. Police initiated a traffic stop after the car stopped at a Flying J truck stop, where the three passengers went inside to use the restroom.

After smelling marijuana in the car, Roe, the driver, gave officers two bags of marijuana and a pipe, the report states.

Officers say a search of the vehicle found multiple bottles of alcohol, prescription pills, ecstasy, several baggies of marijuana, marijuana-laced candy, a bag of mushrooms, chocolate made with psilocybin mushrooms,  a number of marijuana pipes, and a .40 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun loaded with hollow-point bullets.

Police believe Jolly Ranchers candy was melted and the THC was added to it.

"We've heard of the gummy bears, where they soak them in alcohol overnight and taking them to school, sucking on the gummy bears, getting alcohol off that," said St. George Police Chief Anthony Britt. "But we haven't seen ones the with the marijuana THC on it yet."

Police also found packets of medical marijuana in the suspects' car. According to the label, it is only prescribed for patients in Colorado.

Police said they also found $1,620 in Howell's pocket.

The four suspects, each from the upstate, were then placed under arrest.
