Camp teaches amputee and limb different students to play instruments

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

A local organization is helping amputee and limb different students learn how to play an instrument.

Cincinnati Adaptive Music will be hosting their first Adaptive Music Camp this August at the College of Mount St. Joseph.

This year's camp is directed toward amputee or limb different students who wish to learn how to play piano or stringed instruments.

The students will meet for six days culminating in a recital on the last day. Each camp day will include a private lesson, group class, music history class and musicianship.

A prosthetist and an engineer will meet with the child's teacher and child to develop special fittings for adaptive devices and/or instruments themselves if needed. Several outings and special guest speakers and performers are planned throughout the week as well.

Students and parents will come away from this camp with a complete framework for how to play their instrument and several exercises to keep them going until they can find a home teacher to continue their lessons.

The camp will take place from August 5-10.
