GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - Family and friends said their final goodbyes to little Ahlittia North.
The funeral for the 6-year-old girl, who was taken from her home and found dead days later, was moved from Donaldsonville to Gonzales.
North disappeared from her Harvey, LA home sometime after she was put to bed after 11 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2013. Her body was found Tuesday morning in a trash bin near her apartment.
Authorities say 20-year-old Matthew Flugence, North's stepfather's nephew, confessed to stabbing North to death and stuffing her inside a garbage can. Reports say that Flugence occasionally babysat North.
Flugence was booked on a first-degree murder charge in her death.
Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand said Flugence was carrying a knife when he was arrested that he later identified it as the murder weapon.
North's funeral was held at the Christian Assembly Church on LA 941 in Gonzales. The service began at 11 a.m. on Monday.
The funeral was originally scheduled at the First Baptist Church in Donaldsonville and moved to Gonzales. However, North was buried at the First Baptist Church Cemetery in Donaldsonville.
