ATC agents crack down on underage alcohol & tobacco sales

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Agents from the Louisiana Alcohol and Tobacco Control have been out every day this summer conducting compliance checks at businesses throughout the state.

ATC Commissioner Troy Hebert said his agency has already conducted more than 1,500 compliance checks and expects that number to be over 3,000 by the time school resumes in August.

Hebert added the checks have resulted in about an 85 percent compliance rate across the state.

"Selling alcohol and tobacco in the state is not a right, it's a privilege and that privilege can be taken away if you don't comply with the laws set by the state," Hebert explained.
