Police investigate string of armed robberies

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police are investigating a rash of armed robberies that happened in about a 30-minute window early Friday morning.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported four armed robberies in the south Baton Rouge area between 1:10 a.m. and 1:45 a.m.

Investigators said the suspects targeted homes along or just off Nicholson Drive from just past the LSU Golf Course up to Wyoming Street, which is just two blocks past the northern edge of the LSU campus.

"I used to stay back here about 10 years ago and it was real terrible.  As for armed robberies, I've never see one of them," said Walter Wales, a neighbor in the area.

Detectives said they are looking for three or four suspects. They are described as black men wearing dark-colored clothes, with bandanas covering the bottom half of their faces. They were seen in a small SUV believed to be gray or blue-colored.

"We're concerned for the public's safety number one," said BRPD Spokesman Don Coppola.  "We ask that people be on aware of your surroundings and keep your guard up."

If you saw anything suspicious in the area Thursday night or have any information that could help police catch the suspects, you are encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 344-7867.
