New Roads Mayor trying to block police jury from doubling tax

NEW ROADS, LA (WAFB) - The mayor of New Roads is asking a judge to step in and keep the Pointe Coupee Police Jury from doubling a millage tax.

Mayor Robert Myer filed the petition on Thursday, hoping the judge will issue an injunction.

Road construction is the heart of the issue, Myer says the people don't need it and doubling the tax is unconstitutional.

In response, the Police Jury President tells 9News "We hope for a quick resolve."
