FRISCO, Texas – The Nicholls State University football team had three members named to the 2013 Preseason All-Southland Conference teams announced the league office Wednesday.
Junior tight end Nick Scelfo led the Colonels with first-team honors, while running back Marcus Washington and kicker Andrew Dolan, both seniors, received second-team.
Scelfo, a native of Baton Rouge, was an automatic selection after garnering second-team All-Southland last season. A two-time all-conference honoree, Scelfo ranked second among tight ends in the Southland in receptions (22), receiving yards (300) and touchdowns (2). Scelfo was a consistent factor in the Colonels' passing game which ranked third in the conference last season, hauling in a reception in all but one game including all seven Southland contests.
Dolan landed on the second-team after leading the Colonels with 51 points scored. On the year, he made 10 of 14 field goals and 21 extra points. From 40-49 yards out, the Mobile, Ala. native made all four attempts including a season-best 48-yarder. In the Colonels' last six games, Dolan connected on 7 of 8 attempts with his only miss coming from 52 yards out.
Washington was tabbed second-team after ranking fourth in the Southland in rushing with 59.8 yards. A native of Lillian, Ala., Washington averaged 5.2 yards per carry, rushing for 598 yards and six touchdowns. He also contributed to the passing game, recording 25 receptions for 167 yards. On the year, he average 76.5 all-purpose yards per game.
