Mesa restaurant serves up fair food all year long

When the fair comes to town, visitors love to indulge in one-of-a-kind fair food.

Whether it's the funnel cake or alligator on a stick, it's food that's tough to find anywhere else ... until now.

Mesa is now home to a restaurant that serves fair food favorites all year long.

Piggly's at the Fair serves everything from roasted pig to deep fried Oreos and chicken wings.

"Everything... the gator-on-a-stick, the jumbo onion rings, the zucchini, the piggly fries, the chili cheese fries," said Brent Dominy, the general manager of Piggly's at the Fair.

"I think a couple more times we'll try the frog legs. We'll try the alligator, because I like exotic foods," said Richard Cota, a customer of the new restaurant.

CBS 5 went into the kitchen to see how Chef Kerwin Blau who explained what it took to make the perfect gator on a stick.

"We'll tenderize it, we'll pound it out, we coat it with our batter," said Blau.

"We'll take our gator and we'll put it in the fryer," he added.

If the kids won't quite go for the gator on a stick, there's always cotton candy or funnel cake.

There are also fun games to play to keep the spirit of the fair alive.
