CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

The ALS Association Central & Southern Ohio Chapter is teaming up with the Cincinnati Reds to raise awareness for a disease affecting thousands.

ALS Awareness Day will be held July 21 at Great American Ballpark.

As The ALS Association Central & Southern Ohio Chapter's primary awareness event, ALS Awareness Day with the Cincinnati Reds provides the perfect venue for the chapter to generate continued education and awareness for Lou Gehrig's Disease throughout the community.

Roger Siervogel, an ALS patient, and his wife Renee will be invited to the field to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Pre-game ceremonies begin at 12:30 pm.

ALS, or Lou Gehrig's Disease, is a devastating and fatal neuromuscular disease for which there is no known cause, prevention or cure.

ALS does not discriminate, it can strike anyone. In recent years, studies by the Department of Defense, the Department of Veterans Affairs and Harvard have shown that those who serve in the military are more than twice as likely to be diagnosed with ALS than the average person.
