BIRMINGHAM, AL (WAFB) - LSU and Southern are roughly seven weeks away from kicking off their seasons, but first, it's the all important week of talking known as media days.

SWAC Media Days begin Monday, while the SEC Media Days start Tuesday. Both are being held in Birmingham, AL.

Of course, the Jaguars hope to hoist the SWAC Championship trophy at the end of the season. There are some exciting things on the home front for the Jags and student-athletes from Southern will be made available to talk about the upcoming season. Dray Joseph, now a senior quarterback, and Virgil Williams, a defensive back, will be on-hand in Birmingham.

Conference officials will announce the predicted order of finish Monday morning, as well as the pre-season All-SWAC team. Joseph, returning as the top passer in the league, could be the pre-season offensive MVP. He threw for 2,498 yards with 25 touchdowns and only seven interceptions.

It's not often that a first-year coach, sort of speak in Dawson Odums, has a veteran quarterback to lean back on right away.

Southern will kick off its season in Houston against the Cougars on Friday, August 30.

LSU's season starts against TCU in Arlington on Saturday, August 31.
