NO weekend violence spike, 7 shootings, 5 dead in 12-hour period

(WWL-TV/WAFB) - New Orleans had a spike of deadly violence in a 12-hour period over the weekend, with seven people being shot and five of them killed.

A 2-year-old is listed in critical condition after being shot outside his complex apartment on Mt. Kennedy Drive in Morrero.  According to WWLTV, the child and his mother were heading to their apartment after they got out of their vehicle. Then, shots were fired.

Detectives do not believe they were the intended victims.

In Harvey, on Sunday morning, deputies report a fight broke out at Pandora's Place Bar on Manhattan Boulevard that led to a shooting. Officials report Ricardo Sosa was shot three times. He later died at the hospital.

An unidentified Gretna man was found lying in the street on the block of 500 Commerce Street. WWLTV reports the person, who reported to 9-1-1 Emergency, said she heard at least five shots. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

In New Orleans, WWLTV reports that investigators found drugs on a 35-year old unidentified man, at the corner of Second and S. Roman Street, who was shot and killed. He was found with multiple shots and died at the scene.

Later, there was a double shooting in the central area near the 3100 block of Baronne Street. Officers found a 43-year-old man who died at the scene from a gunshot wound. The other victim, 37, was driven to the hospital, and he was treated for a gunshot wound to the hip.

According to WWLTV, officers also discovered a 21-year-old man dead inside a vehicle in the 1400 block of St. Anthony Street in the Seventh Ward. He had been shot in the chest.
