(WAFB) - A St. James Parish man is dead from being ejected from his vehicle after it left the roadway and overturned Saturday evening a little after 9 p.m.

Allen Morrison, 64, of St. James was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. James Parish Coroner's Office. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

According to an investigative  report from the LSP Troop C, Morrison was driving a 1999 Dodge Ram, traveling west on LA 3219 just east of LA 3127. It is unknown why the vehicle traveled off to the right side of the road and continued onto the grassy shoulder for "almost 300 feet before re-entering LA 3219."

The report reveals that Morrison overcorrected to the right of the roadway where it finally overturned and ejected him from the vehicle.  Investigators are still looking for more information on the crash, but the Troopers report that alcohol was not a factor. Still, "routine toxicology tests are pending."

The Louisiana State Police of Troop C would like to remind the public that "while not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seatbelts can greatly decrease an occupant's chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury." Troops also say that the law requires every vehicle occupant to be properly buckled up when in their vehicles at all times.

Louisiana Public Officer Evan Harrell says that, "Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police."
