Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange Thursday announced the hiring of two key members of his staff to replace outgoing personnel who recently resigned to pursue positions in other cities.

The positions are for Executive Assistant to the Mayor and Director of Retail and Commercial Development. Mayor Strange said Anita Archie was hired for the first position and Purser "Mac" McLeod for the latter. Both positions are part of the mayor's cabinet.

"We are pleased and honored to have such quality individuals decide to leave successful careers to join in helping move our City forward," Mayor Strange said. "Montgomery is indeed fortunate."

The mayor's office says Archie will have oversight responsibilities of the City's Planning and Risk Management Departments, will work with the City Council and the City Clerk's office and will provide general project management.

"She is uniquely talented and worked tirelessly to fight for the private sector," Bill Canary, president and CEO of the Business Council of Alabama where Archie has worked for  four years. She is currently the BCA's senior vice president of Intergovernmental Affair and Advocacy and Legal Advisor.

McLeod will work to bring retail to the capital city, manage the City's Design Studio and serve as a liaison with the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce.

"Mac has worked with us for more than a decade, during which time I've known him as both a strong business and civic leader," said Jimmy Lowder, the chairman of Colonial Company. McCleod is currently the CEO of the Colonial Company, an Alabama based investment company.

Both Archie and McLeod are to begin their new positions within the next three weeks, according to the mayor's office.

The two are replacing outgoing Jeff Downes and Chad Emerson who went on to positions with other cities.
