BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A home and car were badly damaged in a fire Thursday morning.

The St. George Fire Department reported it happened on Briarhurst Drive in Baton Rouge just after 6 a.m. Briarhurst is near Siegen Lane and Highland Road.

Firefighters said the carport and attic above it were on fire when they made it to the scene. They added the flames were brought under control in about a half-hour, but not before they burned through about one-third of the roof.

There were no injuries, but officials estimate the fire caused more than $200,000 worth of damage to the home. A car parked in the driveway of the house next door was also badly damaged by the heat from the fire.

Investigators believe the fire started under the carport, but have not yet figured out the exact cause.

The investigation is ongoing.
