LIVINGSTON, LA (WAFB) - A mother was arrested on cruelty to juveniles and child desertion charges after her toddler pinned his neck in a car window.

The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office said Candace Gordon, 20, of Denham Springs, was taken into custody Monday. She was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on one count of second-degree cruelty to juveniles and two counts of child desertion. Her bond was set at $51,000. Officials said she bonded out of the parish prison Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened in Maurepas on July 3. Deputies said Gordon had her 2-year-old son and 14-month-old with her when she stopped at a friend's house on Old River Road. They reported she left the children in the car with the engine running while she went inside the home, but did not indicate how long the kids were left alone.

Investigators said the little boy was able to get out of his car seat and pressed the button to raise the power windows. According to LPSO, the window ended up pinning against his neck and made him lose consciousness. Emergency crews were called out to the home and the toddler was rushed to Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center in Baton Rouge.

Authorities said the boy was released from the hospital on July 6. No further details on his condition were released.
