BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Emergency crews were called out to an apartment fire in Baton Rouge early Thursday morning.

The St. George Fire Department said it happened at a four-plex on Stern Avenue, which is near GSRI Avenue, around 2:15 a.m.

Firefighters reported seeing heavy smoke billowing from the attic vents once they made it to the scene. They added the flames broke through the roof a short time later.

Officials said it took crews almost an hour-and-a-half to get the fire under control. They added the roof collapsed and the building is considered a total loss.

No injuries were reported. Firemen said it appeared as though someone lives in one of the four apartments, but that person was not home at the time.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
