Thieves targeting LSU Lakes area

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Thieves have been targeting the area around the LSU lakes along Standford. Baton Rouge Police report two vehicle thefts in the last two weeks.

Both vehicle thefts happened just before 9 am- the first was Saturday July 6th followed by a second on July 10th.

In both cases, police say the victims left their keys behind at their vehicles before heading around the lakes to exercise.

Runners with Varsity Sports urged people to be on the lookout. The sports store posted a warning on their Facebook page.

"You have to be aware- and not leave anything out in plain sight," said Lauren Haro.

"I know we're all guilty of it at some point, but we all need to be a little more careful."

Baton Rouge Police had officers patrolling the area shortly after the thefts.
