PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A San Luis man who used his wife and teenage son to traffic methamphetamine was sentenced to 20 years in prison and fined $3,000.

Indalecio Castro-Ponce, 40, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Susan Bolton on Monday in Phoenix.

Castro-Ponce was found guilty in April of one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and two counts of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Castro-Ponce used his wife, teenage son and others to distribute methamphetamine on more than 20 occasions to throughout the Southwest, including Salt Lake City; Las Vegas, NV; Fresno, CA; Sunland, CA; and Moreno Valley, CA, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office in Arizona.

Following visits by Castro-Ponce, law enforcement seized more than three pounds of 96 percent pure "ice" methamphetamine in Fresno and more than seven pounds of methamphetamine and $200,000 in Moreno Valley.

Castro-Ponce, a first-time offender, received a more severe sentence for having involved his children in the drug trafficking activities, being a leader and organizer of a drug trafficking organization, and obstructing justice by committing perjury under oath at trial, according to the attorney's office.

The investigation was conducted by U.S. Customs and Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Yuma, Fresno, Riverside County, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas and Phoenix, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the LA-IMPACT Task Force, the INCA Task Force, and the Fresno County Sheriff's Office.
