BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Fire investigators said they believe an early morning house fire was intentionally set.
The Baton Rouge Fire Department said the fire started at a home in the 900 block of Elysian Drive in Baton Rouge just before 1:45 a.m. Officials have ruled the cause of the fire as arson.
Firefighters reported the back of the home was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived on the scene. It didn't take them long to get the fire under control, but the flames made their way to the attic before they could do so. However, firemen were able to keep the flames from spreading to nearby homes.
Officials said no one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.
BRFD said the back part of the house was significantly damaged due to the fire, while the rest of the home had heavy smoke and water damage.
Investigators reported the fire caused about $80,000 worth of damage.
