NEW ORLEANS, LA (WWL-TV) - An NOPD officer was killed early Sunday morning in a hit and run accident on I-10 East at the highrise.
Investigators said that around 1:00 Sunday morning, an off duty police officer stepped out of his vehicle to help a motorist already involved in a traffic accident. A white car driving erratically struck the officer knocking him to the pavement. The car then fled the scene.
The officer was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police have not released his name.
Police believe the vehicle involved in this accident is a white 2011 or 2012 Porsche Panamera with extensive front, right side damage. The car is missing a front light kit as well as a side view mirror. The driver fled eastbound on the interstate heading toward Slidell.
