Carjacker takes vehicle with 2 small kids inside

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

It was a scary start to Independence Day for one family after a mother's car was stolen early Thursday morning with her two young children still inside the vehicle.

The Baton Rouge Police Department said the carjacker is still on the run Friday morning.

According to reports, a man jumped into a running vehicle in the parking lot of a Circle K on Highland Road around 3:30 a.m.

The driver was inside the store and her two young children were in the backseat.

Investigators said the suspect made it a few miles before noticing his passengers and dumped them out of the car at the Quick Mart on Old Perkins Road.

Police reported the children were returned unharmed. The suspect is believed to be in a blue Toyota Sienna with California plates: 5SVR500.

Call Crime Stoppers at 344-7867 if you can help locate the SUV.
