Fugitive extradited from DeKalb Co. to California

DEKALB COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A fugitive charged with child abduction out of California was extradited from DeKalb County to San Diego, California after three months in jail.

Tammy Cherie Rief, 45, was arrested by U.S. Marshals at a business in Ider on April 3 and booked into the DeKalb County Jail. She was wanted on a warrant from San Diego, California for child abduction.

According to published reports, Rief kidnapped her own son, moved across the country, changed their names and was later caught in North Carolina.

Investigators said Rief skipped bond in North Carolina in 2011 and fled to Alabama. The DeKalb County Court did not set a bond for Rief because of the flight risk.

Investigators with the San Diego County District Attorney's Office transported Rief from DeKalb County back to California on Monday.
