FALMOUTH, KY (FOX19) -

A trial date has been set for a former northern Kentucky coach who is facing sex charges.

Cassie Elfers is scheduled to go on trial on July 18 at 8:30 a.m. in Pendleton County after she rejected a plea deal.

Details of the plea deal were not released.

Elfers was the part-time volleyball coach at Sharp Middle School. She was charged in January with one count of sexual abuse. Two additional charges of of sexual abuse and a charge of distribution of obscene matter were added in March.

Elfers allegedly had an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Elfers' attorney, Eric Deters, has said that there wasn't any sexual intercourse, and that Elfers was not the volleyball coach at the time of the alleged sexual contact. She was an assistant basketball coach for the boys team, which was coached by her ex-boyfriend.
