Authorities reported a couple suspected of stealing nearly 500 gallons of diesel from a gas station in May was arrested while allegedly stealing diesel from a different gas station early Tuesday morning.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office said Brandon Angelety, 32, of Violet, and his wife, Jairomeora, 30, are both charged with felony theft of diesel. Violet is near Chalmette. They were booked into the Ascension Parish Jail and are awaiting bond. They were also charged in the theft of 475 gallons of diesel from the Purpera Super Stop in Gonzales on May 29.

Sheriff Jeff Wiley said deputies on patrol early Tuesday morning spotted a van at the Chevron Dutchtown Market in Geismar that matched the description of the one seen on surveillance video from the Gonzales diesel theft.

Deputies reported discovering the diesel pump at the Dutchtown Market convenience store had been tampered with to allow diesel to flow without being purchased. They added the fuel was being pumped into 55-gallon drums and other large containers in the back of the van. Deputies detained the two suspects until detectives showed up to take over the investigation.

Detectives said addition charges may be filed because they believe the Angeletys could possibly be linked to other diesel thefts in the parish.

The investigation is ongoing.
