Gailes sentenced to 40 years for deadly Mardi Gras parade shooting

PLAQUEMINE, LA (WAFB) - The man convicted in a deadly shooting at a 2012 Mardi Gras parade will spend the next few decades behind bars.

A judge sentenced Akeem Gailes of Plaquemine last week to serve 40 years in prison.

Dewayne Milton Smith from White Castle was killed on February 19, 2012.

Gailes had faced up to 60 years for the crime.
