BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Would you say that BREC is doing an excellent, good, not so good, or poor job?
A survey by Southern Media and Opinion Research asked people in East Baton Rouge Parish what they think about the city-parish's park system.
BREC Director of Communications Cheryl Michelet says they are pleased with the results.
"We were very happy to see that over 90 percent said that BREC parks are a source of pride for the community. So you can't get much better than that," said Michelet.
They're public parks, so the survey asked whether BREC is spending your tax dollars wisely - an important question, as a ten-year property tax renewal will likely come up in 2014.
"73 percent of people said felt that we we're using tax payer dollars wisely. And that's a key question because they're trusting us with their dollars because in return they get something that brings pride to a community," she said.
One point of pride for many is the golf course at City Park. The survey asked whether people want to improve it, eliminate it, or leave it alone. Mixed results show 17 percent of people would like to improve the park and its golf course. 50 percent say they don't use that park at all.
So what's the most popular of all the BREC parks? Nearly 20 percent of people say they've visited the Baton Rouge Zoo at least once in the past year.
